PHOENIX — A SAFE Alert issued earlier on Friday for a missing 17-year-old boy last seen in Phoenix was canceled by authorities.

Tristan Whitworth was found safe and is back with his family, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

When the alert was first issued, Whitworth was last seen walking in the area of 28th Street and Sweetwater Avenue at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Tristan has a medical condition that can make him appear lost or confused.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons 65 and older and missing persons of other ages who suffer from dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
