Hampton Police Division is investigating a homicide that happened Saturday, according to a press release.

This event occurred in the 500 block of Newport News Avenue. This is near Eason Park and Darling Stadium and contains single family homes.

At about 7:38 p.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call asking for a welfare check on a family member. When police arrived, they made contact with a man who said the person in question was sleeping.

When officers went to the person in question’s bedroom, they found the person dead with gunshot and stab wounds.
