Three days before the opening of modern gun deer season, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's Fiocchi shooting range at Mayflower was busy.

Hunters were there to make sure their rifles were on target before opening day on Saturday. I accompanied my friend Mike who was having a devil of a time zeroing in his Remington 700 chambered in 257 Weatherby Magnum. We also needed to sight in his girlfriend's Savage Axis chambered in 270 Winchester.

Mike's Remington is the LSS variant with a stainless steel barrel and gray laminate stock. Remington produced the LSS for a short time. It is rare and increasingly valuable, especially those in uncommon chamberings like 257 Weatherby. They bring about three times original MSRP. Mike bought one in every chambering.
