A week that began with South Carolina blanketed in an arctic chill and snow flurries in Myrtle Beach, of all places, then saw Palmetto State residents gawking for a rare glimpse of the northern lights — a phenomenon not often seen this far South.
Now it will end with a chance for many people to see a meteor show expected to bring 15 shooting stars per hour . The peak of the annual Leonids is expected this weekend.
The best viewing should be the morning of Nov. 17, though the morning of Nov. 18 also will be good, according to EarthSky.org . Best viewing times are after midnight under a dark sky, which should be aided with less light from the waning moon in advance of next week’s new moon.
