A 70-year-old Ocean County man has been charged with intentionally setting three separate fires inside his home, authorities said Sunday.

George DiPierro was arrested Saturday after starting the fires at his Harbor Court residence in Berkeley Township, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a release.

Police and firefighters were called to the home around 12:15 p.m. and found smoke on the first floor and evidence of a fire that had already burned out, according to officials.

Fire crews then located two additional fires in separate bedrooms on the second floor and extinguished both.

Investigators determined each blaze had been started with an open flame applied to combustible material.

DiPierro, who lives in the home, was taken into custody without incident, prosecutors said.
