HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A construction project to improve the parking lot at Keehi Small Boat Harbor will begin Monday.

The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said the work will address coastal inundation and sea level rise impacts.

Crews will construct grade adjustment walls and import fill material to raise the elevation of the west side of the parking lot, which has been steadily sinking over time.

They will also pave over gravel/dirt areas to fix potholes and manage water pooling, along with striping, drainage work, fencing, and signage installation.

DLNR said the project costs around $3.9 million and is expected to be completed by next February.

No harbor facilities closures are expected, but parking will be impacted.
