HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - As we mark National Family Literacy Month, the matriarch of a famous Hawaii football family is on a mission to change lives through literacy.

Linda Fehoko isn’t usually in the limelight -- her husband is UH icon “Vili the Warrior” and she’s raised four football stars, including Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive Tackle Breiden Fehoko.

Now she’s tackling a big challenge as the Hawaii delegate for the National Coalition of Adult Basic Education (COABE) -- low literacy rates.

COABE says non native English speakers make up 60% of Hawaii’s workforce, compared to the national average of 19%. That means language support is vital for financial stability.
