DULUTH — Minnesota Duluth will travel to face Ashland University (Ohio) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II football playoffs, as revealed during the selection show on Sunday evening.
The 11th-ranked Bulldogs (10-1) enter the Super Region Three matchup on Saturday, Nov. 22, as the No. 5 seed, while the 20th-ranked Eagles (9-2) enter as the No. 4 seed.
The winner of the first-round matchup will take on either top-seeded and defending national champion Ferris State or Northwood.
Both UMD and Ashland are coming off regular-season conference championships, as the Eagles shared the Great Midwestern Athletic Conference title with No. 2 seed Findlay. At the same time, the Bulldogs earned their first outright Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title since 2012.
