Reno legislator Selena La Rue Hatch says backroom deals enabled a bill to pass the Nevada Assembly on Sunday that would create tax subsidies for movie studios in Las Vegas.
Only one vote enabled it to pass.
Speaker Steve Yeager declared “exceptional circumstances” that allowed two yes votes to be cast on Zoom by Assembly members who went on vacation during the fourth day of the Legislature’s special session.
The Speaker of the Assembly has the authority to decide what counts as exceptional.
“I think that it very much smacks of a culture of corruption and a culture of cronyism because Steve Yeager has allowed corporate lobbyists to come bully people, to buy people off, to promise them appropriations in some bills in exchange for their vote on this bill,” La Rue Hatch told the Reno Gazet
