MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Sunday marked World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, a day set aside to honor those who have been killed in traffic accidents.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation acknowledged that they stand with the victims and their families.
According to WisDOT, more than 450 people have died on Wisconsin roadways in 2025. Over one million people have died in traffic accidents worldwide this year.
40 traffic incident deaths happened in October 2025 in Wisconsin. 13 have been reported so far in November this year.
In 2024, 127,551 crashes occurred on Wisconsin roads. 576 people died in those crashes.
28% of the fatal crashes involved speeding, while 27% involved impaired driving. 13% of fatal crashes involved both, officials said.
