The individuals were detained after locals complained of suspicious behaviour.
In a significant development amid the Assam Government’s ongoing crackdown on illegal Bangladeshis, locals at Tinsukia today apprehended 44 individuals allegedly hailing from Jammu and Kashmir after noticing suspicious behaviour.
The group, which reached Tinsukia by train from Delhi, reportedly failed to provide clear details about their destination or purpose of travel.
Although they claimed to have come from Jammu and Kashmir for soil excavation work in Arunachal Pradesh, their inconsistent statements raised further suspicion. Some said they were headed to Dibrugarh, others mentioned Arunachal, while their supposed manager insisted, they were his labourers, yet no official verification was produced.
