Less than a year after the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board shut down, regional mayors are eager to resume collaborating — though what that would look like remains to be seen.

Fort Saskatchewan is hosting a meet and greet in December, inviting all representatives from 13 former members of the board, including Mayor Andrew Knack, to discuss areas where the municipalities can work together.

“The purpose of that is to start to build new relationships, discuss our shared goals and look to how we can work together to achieve that,” said Fort Saskatchewan Mayor Lisa Makin. “I think there is a lot of appetite to try to come back together, not because the province is telling us we have to, but because we make better decisions for the region when we do.
