ASHLEY, N.D. — A Minnesota man has drowned after trying to save his dog while hunting in south central North Dakota.
The McIntosh County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page that 30-year-old Christopher Hendricks of Champlin died Nov. 12 while hunting for waterfowl in the Eszlinger Waterfowl Production Area north of Ashley.
According to reports, Hendricks and a hunting companion shot a duck and the dog was sent into the water to retrieve the bird, which was about 100 yards from shore. When the dog reached the bird, it reportedly became stuck in a sheet and began struggling.
His friend told McIntosh County Sheriff Steve Delzer that Hendricks removed his bulky hunting clothing and jumped into the slough to save his dog. Hendricks reportedly reached the dog, and the two began swimm
