For decades, terror lurked behind a picturesque stretch of roadway in rural Virginia.
A slew of homicides known as the Colonial Parkway Murders went unsolved for years.
Now, a man whose DNA was linked to three of the cold case murders that occurred in the 1980s has been tied to a fourth murder, cops say.
Virginia State Police announced that Alan Wilmer Sr. was responsible for the 1988 murder of 19-year-old Laurie Ann Powell. Wilmer died in 2017 at the age of 63.
Powell had last been seen walking down a road in Gloucester County following a heated argument with her boyfriend. Three weeks later, her body was discovered floating in the Elizabeth River off Chesapeake Bay in southeast Virginia.
