A 20-year-old man has been charged after a violent early-morning assault in Sault Ste. Marie left another person seriously injured.
Police say 911 communicators received a call around 4:25 a.m. on Nov. 15 reporting an altercation near Smale Avenue and Edmonds Avenue.

When officers arrived in the area, they found a victim suffering from serious injuries at the intersection of McNabb Street and Pentagon Boulevard. The victim was taken to hospital.
According to investigators, the accused — Brandon Leclerc, who is known to the victim — struck them with a shovel and punched them multiple times.
Leclerc was located and arrested around 3 a.m. the following day.
He is charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.
