A man who fled a traffic stop in Newtown was apprehended in a resident’s garage Monday morning.

Newtown Police Chief Christopher Lunn said the incident occurred about 8 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Media Line Road. The operator fled from police, and after his vehicle got stuck in traffic, he got out and ran on foot.

With assistance from Marple police, Juan Russell-Ponce, 34, Philadelphia, was located in an open garage on Third Avenue and apprehended by officers.

Lunn said the Russell-Ponce has outstanding warrants from Upper Darby, Norristown and New Jersey.

Court records indicate Russel-Ponce was wanted in Upper Darby for a 2019 assault and strangulation as well a court hearing involving prowling at night.
