A 20-year-old North Amityville man was formally charged with manslaughter and weapons charges after allegedly shooting and killing his 17-year-old friend, prosecutors said.
Bryan Ventura Ramirez was arraigned in Suffolk County Court Monday, Nov. 17, on charges stemming from the fatal shooting of Robin Moscoso Hernandez.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, when Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call at Ventura Ramirez’s home on Francine Avenue in North Amityville, as Daily Voice reported.
Officers found Moscoso Hernandez lying in a hallway with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m., investigators said.
Detectives recovered a handgun under Ventura Ramirez’s bed the same night, prosecutors said. The weapon, described as a “ghost gun,” had no serial number and had been created using a 3D printer. A shell casing was found lodged inside the firearm, which had not expelled it properly.
Investigators also recovered a bag containing 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition from Ramirez’ bedroom, prosecutors said. He was arrested at the scene.
“In this disturbing case, a 20-year-old allegedly possessed an illegal gun and ended up shooting and killing his friend,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney. “Ghost guns and illegal firearms of any kind have no place in Suffolk County. My office continues the tireless work to keep illegal weapons off our streets.”
A Suffolk County grand jury indicted Ramirez on second-degree manslaughter, criminal possession of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon.
After posting the $300,000 bond, he was placed on supervised release with GPS monitoring. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the top charge.
