Politicians have approved a 35 per cent pay bump for their role after the next election but have backed away from setting up a severance package for defeated incumbents and an extra stipend for committee chairs.
Following a 9-6 vote at Tuesday’s meeting, council approved an increase in pay from the median full-time income to the 70th percentile of full-time income in the London census metropolitan area. That means councillors would earn more than 70 per cent of London-region residents.
