SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - After visiting The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts in Chicopee on Monday, Governor Healey arrived at The Springfield Food Policy Council, which also focuses on fighting hunger and nutrition inequality.
The organization aims to expand access to fresh foods, and develop urban agriculture throughout the city.
Western Mass News spoke to their Executive Director, Liz O’Gilvie, to learn more about their mission.
“We originally said we’re going to give milk and eggs to people who didn’t receive their snap, because we know they were going to food banks, and it was really important to understand that people who live on snap were already using food banks to supplement their very small snap benefits...Families can get anywhere from 40 to 80 extra dollars a month
