The world-famous Louvre has announced it is closing one of its galleries due to structural issues, just weeks after thieves broke into the museum, stealing precious jewels.

The museum said in a statement that a technical report submitted on Friday flagged "particular fragility of certain beams holding up the floors" of the second level of the southern wing of the Sully wing because of "recent and unforeseen developments". However, the statement did not elaborate further.

Managers decided to block access to the second-level offices and temporarily relocate the 65 employees working there for three days while experts assess the damage. The Campana Gallery, which hosts Greek ceramics and is located below the offices, will also be closed as a precautionary measure, the Louvre said.
