The family of a nurse who died three days after being sent home from hospital say she was told it was "indigestion and trapped wind" and that she was "let down by the NHS ".

Mum Paula Ivers, 47, was found collapsed in her bedroom by her young daughter at their home in Denton, Tameside. It was later confirmed she had suffered a cardiac arrest caused by a tear in her aorta - the body’s main artery.

An inquest into her death heard she was taken to Tameside Hospital A&E three days earlier with "horrendous" chest pain, which she described as "worse than childbirth". There, Ms Ivers - described by her sister as "fierce advocate and defender of the NHS" - was sent home after being "reassured" it was not "coming from the heart", her partner Simon Norbury told Stockport Coroner's Court.
