TEMPLE, Texas — Two Central Texas teams have earned spots in the Texas High School BBQ Association State Championship after top placements at the Regional Qualifier cookoff this November.

Both Belton High School and Temple High School's teams will advance to State after qualifying at the Texas High School BBQ Association Regional Qualifier on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Belton High School announced its BBQ Team, made up of pitmasters John Hernandez, Juan Jimenez and Sam Vaca, placed in multiple categories in the Regional Qualifier and earned the title of Overall Reserve Grand Champions.

The Belton High School Team placed first in grilled cheese, second in steak, second in chicken, first in ribs and fifth in Dutch oven, the district said.
