Authorities are investigating a fatal house fire near McGrath Road in Fairbanks.

The Steese Volunteer Fire Department responded Saturday morning to a residential fire at 815 McGrath Road. Fire crews discovered a body in the living room during their work to extinguish the flames.

Deputy Fire Marshals say the fire appears to have started near a woodstove. The victim has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy, and their identity will be released once confirmed and family members have been notified.

No foul play is suspected.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire, and anyone in the area is reminded to exercise fire safety precautions.
