BOSTON —
A Boston city councilor wants the city to throw its support behind a state bill that would make it easier to prosecute ride-share drivers accused of raping intoxicated passengers.
"We have to make sure survivors of sexual assault are respected and supported in the criminal justice system," said Councilor Ed Flynn, who represents a district including his South Boston home.
Flynn drafted a resolution to support a bill that makes it a crime for a ride-share driver to have sexual contact with a passenger, eliminating consent as a defense.
He wrote the measure after seeing 5 Investigates' report showing how ride-share drivers are getting away with rape in Massachusetts because of the standard set by state law.
