LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - In the remnants of a Cash Saver grocery store on Wilson Avenue in the Park Duvalle neighborhood is a sea of opportunity.
Now a facelift and a fresh coat of paint, the site will soon have a new purpose.
Park Duvalle Community Health Center CEO Dr. Swannie Jett and his team are in the process of bringing a Food Center to the center of a food desert.
“We’re trying to do something great, so we don’t need anybody on the take,” Dr. Jett said.
Yet, that’s been the biggest challenge. Break-ins and thefts have only added time and money to the project.
The HVAC system was stolen. Copper wire on site is gone with the wind.
For Dr. Jett, it’s disappointing but not discouraging. Additional security measures have been taken to protect the building.
