The trial scheduled to start this week for a woman accused of shoplifting at Lakeside Mall last December, before causing a deadly crash, has been delayed after the judge recused himself last Friday.

According to court documents, Joneaka Smooth, 31, is facing charges for allegedly shoplifting on the afternoon of Dec. 11, hours before deputies said she caused a deadly crash. Advertisement

Smooth is accused of stealing six Gucci scarves valued at at least $3,500 from a Saks Fifth and stealing from Lakeside mall before being involved in a deadly crash killing two teenagers.

Jefferson Parish deputies said they spotted the vehicle and initiated a chase that was called off just one minute later near the Jefferson-Orleans parish line.
