KENT, Wash. — Staff members at UTOPIA Washington packed 300 Thanksgiving meal boxes Tuesday, prioritizing queer and trans Pacific Islanders impacted by cuts to federal nutrition assistance.
The Kent-based organization distributed the holiday meals across King County as part of Transgender Awareness Week, which runs Nov. 13-19 and precedes Transgender Day of Remembrance on Nov. 20.
"In honor of Transgender Trans Awareness Week, we want to be able to spread more awareness around the anti-trans and anti-discrimination narrative that we as a community tend to experience. And so some of the ways that we do that is by showing people how much we care about the community," Tweeti Fatuesi, community services program director, said.
