ASHEVILLE – Council member Kim Roney, along with a group of community leaders and advocates, introduced a resolution Nov. 17 that would seek to prohibit city owned facilities, lots and parks from being used for civil immigration enforcement as staging areas, processing locations or operations.
It was the focus of a Nov. 17 press conference held at Land of Sky United Church of Christ in East Asheville. Roney, who authored the draft, said it was created in collaboration with impacted community members and with insight from other municipalities. She said it is not yet on council’s agenda, which would require three members request it to be added. The mayor and city manager set the agenda for council.
