SAGINAW, MI — Family, friends and colleagues alike will gather later this week to celebrate the life and legacy of Mattie Thompson, the longtime Saginaw Public Schools leader who died last week.

A memorial gathering for Thompson was scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Paradise Funeral Chapel, 3100 S. Washington in Saginaw, her obituary stated . Visitation hours were scheduled at the same site for earlier that morning, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Thompson, 80, died of a heart attack in her home Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Saginaw Public Schools officials, meanwhile, outlined the timeframe for seeking an individual to complete Thompson’s remaining term as a trustee on the Saginaw Public Schools Board of Education. Her term was set to expire in 2026.
