Heavy to very heavy rain fell across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the 24 hours ending on Tuesday morning as a prevailing low-pressure area meandered overnight from south-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast to Comorin area without weakening.
Comorin refers to waters around Kanyakumari and Sri Lanka, and forming the southern boundary of Gulf of Mannar. Rain-bearing easterlies and north-easterlies have been blowing into Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Sri Lanka during last couple of days tracking the movement of the ‘low’ that has not weakened yet.
