LANSING, MI - Michigan energy regulators will offer the public the chance to weigh in on a proposal from DTE Energy to serve a massive artificial intelligence data center on farmland outside Ann Arbor — after the utility sought to rush approval of the deal without such opportunities.

The Michigan Public Service Commission plans to hold a virtual hearing from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 to take input on special contracts DTE plans to use to power the sprawling server warehouse from ChatGPT creator OpenAI and multinational tech firm Oracle in Saline Township.

“This public hearing will add an important element of transparency in evaluating DTE Electric’s proposed special contract,” said Commission Chair Dan Scripps in a statement.
