A man who used a van 'as a weapon' has been jailed for causing serious injury to a semi-professional footballer by dangerous driving.

Conna Smith, 20, suffered life-changing injuries when he was mowed down outside a bar. A court heard he was admitted to intensive care after being dragged under the van.

Another man was also struck by the Ford Transit being driven by Frankie Bromley. Bromley, 23, has now been jailed for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, attempted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and dangerous driving following the incident in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, in the early hours of February 16 this year.
