A St. Paul man jailed after a violent robbery is facing a new charge after he allegedly bit off his cellmate's ear in the Ramsey County Jail last week.
Michael Anthony Lewis, 34, is charged with one count of first-degree assault in connection with the Nov. 10 attack at the jail in St. Paul.
According to the criminal complaint, a correctional officer went to check on the men and found the victim laying on his bed trying to defend himself from Lewis.
The charge details a gruesome scene, with blood on the walls and floor and coming from Lewis' mouth and a bloody pen on the floor.
Responders found the victim's missing ear and placed it on ice, but doctors at Regions Hospital were ultimately not able to reattach it.
