Changes are coming to the Monon Trail in Carmel as well as the city’s other greenways, multi-use trails and sidewalks. The updates come amid growing debate in communities across the country about what should — and shouldn’t — be allowed alongside pedestrians and traditional cyclists on trail systems.
The Carmel City Council, on Nov. 17, unanimously passed an ordinance targeting e-moto devices, which can include electric motorcycles, mopeds and dirt bikes that typically can exceed 20 mph and are powered solely by a motor.
