Edmonton and Red Deer have been named as the hosts for next year’s world junior hockey championship.
The Alberta tandem, which last hosted in 2022 amid COVID-19 cancellations, will once again welcome the best young hockey players in the world Dec. 26, 2026, to Jan. 5, 2027.
The announcement was made at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Tuesday morning.
The bid is a partnership between Oilers Entertainment Group, the Red Deer Rebels, Hockey Alberta, the cities of Edmonton and Red Deer, and the province of Alberta, which made an $11-million commitment in early 2024 to host events in communities throughout the province.
Rogers Place in Edmotnon will be the primary arena for the tournament, including the semifinals and medal games.
More to come.
