CAIRO, N.Y. — A Round Top woman died and two state troopers suffered injuries Monday after a state police vehicle and another car were struck by a car on the New York State Thruway, police said.

At about 5:23 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, Sharon L. Torres, 69, was westbound in a 2020 Kia when she struck the police vehicle. Torres was found unresponsive and was later declared dead at the scene after troopers attempted to save her, state police said in a press release.

Two New York State Police troopers assigned to the Catskill barracks were conducting a vehicle and traffic law stop on state Route 23 when their patrol vehicle was rear-ended by Torres’ vehicle. The patrol vehicle had its emergency lights on, police said.
