GREAT BEND, Kan. (KWCH) - The Great Bend Police Department reports that their School Resource Officer, Paul Millard, was awarded the Bronze Wreath of Valor by the Wichita Police Department.
The award was presented at the Great Bend City Council meeting on Monday. According to GBPD, Millard earned the award for his heroic action while off-duty during the Towne East Mall shooting that took place on Aug. 8.

On Aug. 8, around 3:30 p.m., Millard and his wife were leaving the mall when they heard gunshots in the parking lot. He immediately went to the scene, restrained a suspect and stopped the threat until the Wichita Police Department arrived.
