TYLER, Texas — Multiple East Texas law enforcement agencies are a part of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's 287(g) program, which allows state and local officers to have varying degrees of immigration authority.

Under the program, there are three different models, including the Jail Enforcement Model, the Task Force Model and Warrant Service Officer program.

According to the ICE website, the Jail Enforcement Model is meant to identify and process "removable" undocumented immigrants (those with criminal or pending criminal charges) who are arrested by state or local law enforcement agencies.

The Task Force Model allows the local agencies to enforce limited immigration authority as they perform their regular policing duties with ICE oversight, the website states.
