BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa — Law enforcement officers engaged in a pursuit on Sunday involving Benjamin Sink, a 47-year-old resident of Waterloo. The pursuit began around 9:30 p.m. when Sink, wanted on charges related to a domestic relationship, refused to stop for a traffic stop, according to a press release.
Sink's vehicle was eventually halted on Highway 20 on the Black Hawk/Grundy County line using stop sticks. After exiting his vehicle, Sink fired a gun at officers. Deputies from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper from the Iowa State Patrol returned fire, hitting Sink. Officers administered lifesaving measures on-site before transporting him to MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
None of the officers were injured, and they have been placed
