OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It could soon cost us more money to keep the lights on in our homes and in our businesses.

The Omaha Public Power District Board of Directors are anticipating an increase of 5 to 9% each year until the end of the decade. The rate increase would vary between residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Business owner concerned about timing

Wendy Pivonka owns Legends Comics and Coffee. She has to keep the lights on here and at her home.

“Given the climate of everything right now, it’s not good news, that’s for sure. It’s frustrating. I’d like to see exactly why it’s necessary,” she said.
