More than 93,000 immigrants live in New Orleans as of earlier this year, according to the Vera Institute, a national research and policy nonprofit focused on mass incarceration and immigration. Their data also shows nearly 52,000 residents are noncitizens, though the organization does not distinguish between documented and undocumented individuals.

Nearly 200 Border Patrol agents expected to arrive in New Orleans, following similar operations in cities including Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Charlotte under the Trump administration. With agents set to arrive in the coming days, immigration attorney Glen Wasserstein is advising residents, whether they're citizens or noncitizens, on what their rights are if approached by an agent.
