BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Back Bay Mission kicked off Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week with an annual give-back event in Biloxi, offering a variety of services for people in need.
36 vendors gave the unhoused assistance with resources like health screenings, insurance services, housing and educational resources and information.
Daniel Curran is a Vietnam veteran who’s homeless and handicapped.
Curran said events like this make him thankful, and that it isn’t easy being without a home.
“I’ve been homeless off and on anytime I’m around in an area. There’s a lot of addicts out there,” Curran said.
He said things got worse when he was attacked several years ago, leaving him partially blind in one eye.
“I’m only 90% so I’m unemployable. I can’t work,” he said.
