EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Evansville Water and Sewer Utility board members approved the bid recommendation for improvements to the water treatment plant.

They originally planned to construct a brand new river water treatment facility, but decided instead to build a new groundwater facility along with wells, which is much cheaper for the city and customers

This plan includes renovating the existing South Water Treatment Plant, which will continue to treat river water.

Tuesday, board members approved a bid for over $16.6 million to Bowen Engineering Incorporated to begin improvements to that existing plant.

Officials tell us this is an exciting first step in the process.
