SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A jury has ordered the Massachusetts State Police to pay more than 6.8 million dollars, after finding out about discrimination against female and minority troopers.
This comes following a 2016 lawsuit filed by five current and former state troopers, claiming that leadership handpicked candidates for coveted assignments, while passing on women and people of color for opportunities that could boost career advancement, giving white male troopers better chances at rising in the system.
In a statement, the state police said it has reformed its promotion system and is committed to a more representative force.
