AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Continuing with a story we’ve been covering. On Monday night, the Agawam City Council voted unanimously in favor of the ordinance, establishing several restrictions on e-scooters in town.
Now, e-scooters will not be allowed on roads with speed limits over 30 miles per hour and can’t be ridden on streets after dark.
Also, all riders must wear a helmet and be at least 16 years old.
Anthony Suffriti of the Agawam City Council says, “So we don’t do this to take things away from the youth, but we are doing things to make sure that nothing happens to these youth that are so dramatic that they’re life altering”
As of now, if someone is caught violating the restrictions, a $50 fine will be given by the police.
