GALLATIN, Tenn. (WSMV) - Sumner County’s nine volunteer fire departments say they need more money to buy and maintain equipment as inflation drives up prices.
That’s why the County Commission voted Monday night to give them $650,000 in additional funding, on top of the more than $330,000 already donated by the county this year.
But the donation was a one-time boost, and the fire departments say they’re going to have to keep asking for more money in the future to keep up with maintenance, aging equipment, and a growing population.
The nine volunteer departments serve more than 70,000 people in Sumner County who live outside city limits in the unincorporated parts of the county. Right now, they’re funded through private donations from residents and the county commission’s annual charitabl
