West Shore Community College is exploring establishing a School Resource Officer position to enhance safety on campus and strengthen partnerships with local law enforcement, as discussed at the WSCC Board of Education meeting on Monday.
In 2019, the Mason County Board of Commissioners voted not to contract with the college for law enforcement services, according to background information provided in the board packet. In 2020, WSCC entered into an agreement with the City of Scottville Police Department for SRO services, which are no longer available since Scottville disbanded its police department earlier this year. Since that time, the college has received patrols and support from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
