Midland residents have been advised to carry a number of items in the car as a yellow ice alert comes into force this week.

Tomorrow (November 19), the Met Office has put a yellow warning in place for possible ice patches which could impact eight areas of the West Midlands - including Birmingham .

The national meteorological service has forecast outbreaks of rain to spread southwards on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, potentially falling as snow on hills for a time, before clearing to the south.

Its website added: "As skies clear later, allowing temperatures to fall close to or below freezing, this will bring the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces.
