The Newcastle Christmas Markets have returned, and along with new vendors, there's a striking new addition. A huge Ferris Wheel has been erected at the base of Old Eldon Square over the past week, offering families an additional thrilling experience alongside the Carousel.

Every time I find myself in the city centre, I can't help but gaze at the wheel, knowing I had to give it a whirl. Upon reaching the wheel, I was immediately taken aback by how well it blended into the market scene.

It seemed as though the towering structure had always been a part of the city centre, reports Chronicle Live . As I was sat in my pod, and began moving up the 15-metre (50ft) high wheel, I was amazed at the picturesque vantage-point it gave me in the city centre.
