Teesside's amber weather alert has been brought forward by Met Office weather forecasters as a 'significant' snow dump is due to hit. The Government agency issued the rarely-used weather alert on Tuesday stating it would come into force at 5am tomorrow - Thursday, November 20.

But a new warning has been communicated - now starting at 3am tomorrow, lasting until 9pm. The location of the amber warning remains the same for Redcar and Cleveland , and North Yorkshire .

The Met Office says the reason for the amber warning is due to "frequent wintry showers, leading to significant snow accumulations, likely to cause disruption on Thursday". A weather forecast for today and tomorrow can be found here .
